As of November 24, 2023, several notable naval assets are engaged in diverse operations, reflecting the nation’s commitment to security and stability in key areas.
Pacific Operations:
In the Pacific theater, the USS America (LHA-6) stands stationed in Sasebo, Japan, while the Reagan Carrier Strike Group (CSG) recently returned to its homeport in Yokosuka on November 19. The Carrier Strike Group 5, led by the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76), has resumed its operations in Yokosuka, Japan, along with Carrier Air Wing 5, which has seen the return of all nine squadrons and detachments to their home fields.
Moreover, the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) and the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group remain actively deployed in the Philippine Sea, continuing their engagement in the ongoing Annualex 2023 Exercise.
Mediterranean and Red Sea Presence:
The Eastern Mediterranean Sea hosts the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) and its escorts, operating to deter potential involvement by actors such as Hezbollah and Iran in the conflict between Hamas and Israel. Accompanying them is the U.S. 6th Fleet command ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC-20).
Simultaneously, the USS Mesa Verde (LPD-19) carries the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) Bravo Command Element, part of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), in the Mediterranean Sea. Meanwhile, USS Bataan (LHD-5) and USS Carter Hall (LSD-50) are active participants in the U.S. 5th Fleet’s operations.
Additionally, the Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group operates in the Gulf of Oman near the vital Strait of Hormuz, ensuring a robust U.S. presence in the region.
Other Global Engagements:
In the Red Sea, the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, comprising Bataan and Carter Hall, is supported by elements of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit as part of a strategic naval buildup.
