Connecticut Veterans Bulletin: Connecting Our Community (April 18, 2026)
The latest edition of the Connecticut Veterans Bulletin (CVB) has arrived, spanning three comprehensive volumes designed to keep the state’s military and veteran community informed and engaged. From local gatherings and historic service projects to long-term scholarship opportunities, this week’s publication highlights the vibrant network of support available across Connecticut.
Community Events & Social Connection
Camaraderie remains at the heart of the CVB mission. A major highlight for this cycle is the Somers Veterans Coffeehouse on April 25, featuring Navy Veteran and Travel Specialist Ken Maltese. Returning by popular demand, Maltese will share adventure travel stories and insights into upcoming group trips tailored for veterans.
Other notable events for the weekend of April 18 include:
- Winsted Day of Service: Volunteers are gathering at the Old Burying Ground for a cemetery cleanup to honor the 250th anniversary of the United States.
- Military Appreciation Night: The Hartford Athletic professional soccer team is hosting a dedicated night for service members, featuring special ticket pricing and commemorative challenge coins.
- Recreational Rides: The MFC Motorcycle Club East Conn is hosting a “Breakout Ride to the Alamo,” traveling from Willimantic to Brookline, NH.
Education and Future Planning
The Bulletin serves as a critical bridge to future opportunities. The National Guard Association of Connecticut (NGACT) has issued a final call for its 2026 scholarship applications. Current NGACT members and their families have until May 1, 2026, to apply for educational funding.
Additionally, youth programs are in full swing, with Tri-Town American Legion Baseball currently holding registrations for players ages 13–19 in the Putnam, Thompson, Woodstock, and Eastford areas.
Recurring Programs and Essential Services
Volume 3 of this week’s publication provides a master directory of the “infrastructure” supporting Connecticut’s veterans. This includes:
- Veterans Coffee Houses: A robust network of meeting spaces in Newington, Rocky Hill, East Lyme, Norwich, and Tolland that offer safe environments for conversation and benefit information.
- Food and Dining: Weekly staples such as the Wallingford VFW Post 591 Sunday Breakfast and the Berlin American Legion Post 68 Pasta Dinners provide consistent opportunities for local connection.
- Wellness and Support: The bulletin lists specialized resources including equine therapy, “Heal Her Art” sessions, and updated contact information for the Connecticut Department of Labor Veterans Services.
About the CVB
The Connecticut Veterans Bulletin is a weekly publication provided “By Veterans, For Veterans.” Its goal is to centralize information that is often scattered across different platforms, ensuring that no veteran is left without a place to turn for assistance or community.
