A special message from US Marine Veteran Jamie DePaola

I’m a retired Marine and on the committee with the Manchester Elks Lodge to host “The Wall That Heals” that will be visiting CT from September 18-22, 2024.  Please see attached flyers for more details.

We are looking for 300+ volunteers to help during the Wall’s visit that will be located at Charter Oak Park in Manchester.  We will have 4-hour shifts (24/7) beginning at 2 p.m. on September 18th after the Wall is installed until 2 p.m. after the closing ceremony on September 22nd.  Training is provided by the VVMF staff from Washington, DC for Wall Ambassadors, and Information Tent, Volunteer Tent and the Mobile Education Center volunteers.

Would you please help me spread the word in your network so we can welcome plenty of volunteers to support this event?  The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall is one of the most visited war memorials in Washington, D. C., and is dedicated to the 58,281 U.S. service members who fought and died in the Vietnam War. The Wall is also called the ‘Wall that Heals’ as it brings honor, respect, and healing to those who served during this difficult time in our history.

The traveling Wall is a three-quarter scale replica of the National Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. and is accompanied by a Mobile Education Center. We are honored to be welcoming The Wall to Manchester.

There’s a QR code on the flyers or you can click on the button on this link: https://manchesterelks.org/twth2024 to sign up for one or more shifts through the Eventeny application. It’s a great opportunity for groups to volunteer for a shift or to volunteer on the motorcycle escort.

Like most events, we are also looking for sponsorships to help fund the Wall’s visit. Your support in sharing the needs and the news of the traveling Wall is greatly appreciated. We can’t do this alone.

Semper Fi,

Jamie DePaola
