JOIN OUR TEAM – Be a Volunteer at The Wall

It’s easy to volunteer to help honor Vietnam Veterans and their families. You can sign up for any of our four-hour shifts with a variety of duties – some standing, some sitting.
Shifts begin at 2 p.m. on September 18th and run 24/7 until 2 p.m. on September 22nd.
For those who are Bikers, you also have the option to volunteer to be on the motorcycle escort detail on September 17th.

The Vietnam War Travelling Wall is coming to Charter Oak Park, Manchester, CT!
Taking a guided tour of The Wall That Heals is a once in a lifetime experience. The same team that manages the Memorial in Washington D.C. (VVMF staff) will be your tour guide.
When combined with access to The Memorial and mobile Education Center, you have a unique opportunity to learn about the Vietnam War, The Memorial and the impact each had on our nation. That tour lasts approximately 40-45 minutes.
Visitors are invited to pay their respects to the 3 million men and women of the armed forces of the United States who served in the Vietnam War and the 58,000+ veterans who lost their lives. The Wall That Heah, a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC, along with a mobile education center, will be exhibited In Manchester from September 19 to September 22, 2024.

A Message from Jamie DePaola
Thank you to those who have signed up to be a volunteer during the visit of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund’s “The Wall That Heals” during Sept. 18-22, 2024 in Manchester, CT. And thank you to the bikers who will be escorting The Wall on Sept. 17th from Enfield to Manchester.
If you have not signed up to volunteer, please consider doing so, and please share the information with your network of friends and family and community. We still have plenty of openings for shifts. Each shift is 4 hours and begins at 2 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 18th until 2 pm on Sunday, Sept. 22nd and will run 24 hours a day.
There will be four ceremonies beginning with the opening ceremony at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18th. Friday and Saturday’s ceremonies will be held at 6 p.m. and the closing ceremony is at 1 pm on Sunday, Sept. 22nd.
Volunteers will be assigned to one or more of the following. There are several sitting positions for those who cannot stand.
- Assist visitors at The Wall with finding names, viewing photos, name rubbings.
- Visitor Tent: Help guests find names in the database to identify what panel they are listed on The Wall
- Volunteer Tent: Help check in the volunteers. Hand out lanyards, vests, etc. and direct to assigned position.
- Park guides: Greet guests and direct to appropriate tent.
- Mobile Education Center: Help guide guests and talk about the artifacts and hometown heroes.
- Ceremonies: Hand out programs, assist guests with seating, help with set-up etc.
There will be training provided for volunteers at 6 pm on Wednesday, Sept. 18th along with a private tour by the Washington DC staff who is accompanying The Wall. There will also be plenty of snacks etc. provided for the volunteers.
