Join us at Connecticut’s largest Labor Day parade, Newtown’s biggest event! Show your American Legion Family Pride—bring flags, wear your Legion shirt, cap, and comfortable shoes. Vehicles are available for those who prefer to ride. Vehicle lineup begins at 8 a.m., parade starts at 10 a.m. Participants should be with our vehicles by 9 a.m. Assembly location will be announced the week before. September 7th Veteran of the Month First Lieutenant Thomas J. McGovern, United States Army World War Two veteran
Our September 7th Veteran of the Month will be First Lieutenant Thomas J. McGovern, United States Army World War Two veteran. He used his communication training to lead a signal unit of forty-five men who were engaged in radio, telephone and telegraph operations both in and outside of combat. He served with the 101st Infantry Regiment in France.
September 7th, 10 o’clock a.m. at the All-Wars-Memorial in front of Bantam Cemetery with social time and light refreshments in the Bantam Borough Hall directly after the ceremony. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will also take place in the Borough Hall.

Come on out to share your love with “Rosie” and wish him a Happy 100th Birthday. Rosie is a WWII Army Veteran who served in the European Theater. He is a recipient of the Bronze Star for saving the life of his comrade. We will be lining up at a location to be announced and drive by his house. Please decorate your cars or other vehicles and show you appreciation. More details will be posted shortly. We will be starting the parade at 1:00 pm near his home.

Contestants must register in advance with Madog
Contestant numbers will be assigned on a random basis
Contestant tables will be assigned by number, 2 contestants per 8′ table
Contestant entry for set-up, 12 pm
Each contestant must provide their own chili, serving utensils, table decorations, supplies, condiments, etc.
Each contestant must provide a crock pot, soup urn or other container to hold their chili to temperature
Suggested amount of chili: 5 to 6 quarts per contestant
Food related allergy ingredients must be clearly displayed in writing (such dairy, eggs, nuts, chocolate, shellfish)
Tasting bowls and soup spoons will be supplied by contest
No $5 admission fee for contestant (one fee waived per entry)
