Marty’s pride in his service and his unwavering commitment to helping others defined the way he lived.

Marty was a man of immense kindness and generosity, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. His warm spirit touched the lives of countless individuals, from family and close friends to strangers who quickly became part of his extended circle. Marty is survived by his loving wife, Joanne (Daniels) Valentine-Cannata, two stepchildren, David “DJ” Valentine, Jr. and Kristen Valentine, and two step-grandchildren, Brayden and Harper Russenburger. He also leaves behind his sister, Cheryl Youngquist, and her husband, Biff; his nephew, Jeffrey Youngquist, and his wife, Heather; and his beloved dog, Scrappy.

Marty’s family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the West Haven VA and the Middlesex Hospice for the compassionate care and support provided during his illness.

To honor Marty’s life and legacy, funeral services were held on Friday, January 13, 2017, at Cromwell Funeral Home in Cromwell, followed by a service at Bethany Lutheran Church. Full military honors were rendered, reflecting Marty’s distinguished service to his country. Burial was held privately at the family’s convenience.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made in Marty’s memory to the ALS Association Connecticut Chapter or the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.

Marty will forever be remembered for his generosity, courage, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones and his country. He remains an inspiration to all who knew him.
