28 March 1946 – 26 April 1967

In loving memory of CPL Jeffery Raymond Maloney, born on March 28, 1946, and forever cherished in our hearts since his passing on April 26, 1967. Jeffery, the beloved son of Joseph F. Maloney and Grace V. Maloney of Milford, Connecticut, enlisted in the US Marine Corps on September 1, 1964, in Hartford, driven by a profound sense of duty and patriotism.
Assigned to Company K, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, 3d MARDIV (Rein) FMF, Jeffery served with unwavering courage and commitment in the tumultuous landscapes of Vietnam. During Operation PRAIRE, amidst the rugged terrain near Thon Khe Tri and the formidable “Rockpile” in northern Quang Tri Province, Jeffery displayed valor in the face of danger, embodying the Marine Corps’ ethos of Semper Fidelis.
On April 26, 1967, while maneuvering near Hill 861 northwest of the Khe Sanh Combat Base, Jeffery and his fellow Marines encountered intense enemy fire. Despite the perilous circumstances, Jeffery fearlessly engaged the enemy, but tragically, he was struck down by shrapnel from hostile mortar fire. Thirteen brave souls, including Jeffery, made the ultimate sacrifice that day, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and selflessness.
Jeffery’s memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, his sacrifice a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Marine Corps and the enduring bond among brothers in arms. Though he may be gone, his courage and valor will forever echo through the annals of history, inspiring future generations to honor his legacy of service and sacrifice. Rest in peace, dear Jeffery, your duty faithfully fulfilled, your legacy eternally revered.
