Honoring the Life of Alfred J. DeLuzio
Alfred J. DeLuzio, a lifelong resident of New Britain, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 1, 1991, at the age of 68. Born on April 28, 1923, Alfred dedicated his life to his family, his work, and his faith, leaving behind a legacy of service and commitment.
A graduate of E.C. Goodwin Technical School, Alfred’s dedication to learning and self-improvement led him to a long and fruitful career at New Britain Machine Co., where he worked for an impressive 44 years before retiring in 1985. His colleagues remember him as a diligent and reliable worker, someone who contributed significantly to the company’s success.
Alfred’s sense of duty extended beyond his professional life. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, serving his country with honor during World War II. As a WT2c (Water Tender Second Class), Alfred’s experiences in the Navy shaped his character, instilling in him resilience and a sense of duty that he carried throughout his life.
A devout member of St. Joseph’s Church, Alfred regularly attended services and participated in community activities. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through both joyous and challenging times. He was also an active member of the I.A.M. Local 1021, demonstrating his commitment to his trade and his fellow workers.
Alfred is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Alice (Peichert) Newton DeLuzio, who stood by his side throughout their many years of marriage. Dorothy herself passed away at the age of 87 on Monday, December 15, 2003, at the Glastonbury Health Care Center, reuniting with Alfred in eternal peace.
Together, Alfred and Dorothy raised a loving family. He leaves behind his children: Mark DeLuzio of East Hartford, Robert Newton of Newington, Donald Newton of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mrs. Andrea Enos of Danvers, Massachusetts. Alfred’s family extended to his two brothers, Anthony and Alex DeLuzio, both of New Britain, and his ten cherished grandchildren. He is also remembered fondly by several nieces and nephews, who held a special place in his heart.
The family received friends and loved ones at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain, during calling hours on the days following his passing. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 3, 1991, at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass at St. Joseph’s Church at 10 a.m. Burial took place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, where Alfred was laid to rest with the honors befitting his life of service and dedication.
In lieu of flowers, donations were made to the East Hartford Little League, c/o Richard Sika, Treasurer, 15 Cardinal Drive, East Hartford, CT 06108. This gesture honored Alfred’s love for community and his belief in supporting future generations.
