Celebrating the Life of Robert “Bruce” Fagan on His Birthday

Today, we celebrate the birthday of Robert “Bruce” Fagan, a man whose life was defined by service, adventure, and an unwavering dedication to those around him. Born on July 3, 1954, in New Haven, Connecticut, Bruce embraced life with passion, leaving a lasting impact on his family, friends, and the countless individuals he called “brother” and “sister.”

Bruce’s journey of service began when he joined the U.S. Army, serving from 1971 to 1974 during the Vietnam Era. Stationed in Germany as an E-3 in heavy artillery, he was proud of his military service and remained deeply committed to supporting fellow veterans throughout his life. His dedication led him to co-found Skydive for Veterans, a nonprofit aimed at empowering those who served. He also chaired the Veterans Committee at the Westbrook Elks Lodge, ensuring that his military brothers and sisters were always supported.

Beyond his military connections, Bruce found great meaning in the Masons, where he recently served as Senior Warden at Anchor Lodge 112 in East Hampton. He was an active member of the Shriners, Scottish Rite, and Widow’s Sons, taking pride in the bonds and traditions of his Masonic brotherhood. Known for his generosity, Bruce welcomed everyone with open arms, always leading with kindness and a deep sense of community.

Bruce lived life without limits, embracing adventure in every form. A true adrenaline enthusiast, he worked as a deep-sea diver, raced hydroplane boats, and had a passion for skydiving that lasted a lifetime. Whether flying in experimental planes or organizing flyovers for veterans’ events, he pursued his passions with fearless energy. His love for the outdoors extended to his work as an arborist, running American Home and Tree and spending his days climbing trees or operating his beloved trucks—“Yellow,” “Green,” and “Big Red.”

At the heart of Bruce’s journey was his deep spiritual connection. He embraced the teachings of the Lakota, Cree, and Peruvian cultures, leading shamanic drum circles and sharing the wisdom of the Ancestors. He was a water pourer in the sweat lodge and a pipe carrier, always seeking to bring healing and unity to those around him. Alongside his wife, Marie Goodine, he co-founded Rising Wings Counseling Services, dedicated to helping others find peace and connection.

Bruce’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to Marie and a loving father to his daughters, Nelmarie (Antonio) and Yuneli (Luis). He cherished the time he spent with his granddaughters, Alana and Camilla, whose smiles brought him endless happiness. He is also remembered by his brother, William “Sarge” Fagan, his sister JoAnn Panek, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Though his beloved sister Sharon Hosley passed before him, her memory remained close to his heart.

On his birthday, we honor the life of Robert “Bruce” Fagan—a man of service, adventure, and deep compassion. His legacy of love, generosity, and fearless living continues to inspire all who knew him.
