
Savannah, Ga. – Sgt. Nathan Boyden, 23, of 10 Diane Mackenzie Way, Savannah, Ga., and formerly of Canterbury, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 21, 2013, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and service. Born in Norwich on Feb. 5, 1990, Nathan was the cherished son of retired Lt. Col. Loring and Linda (Taylor) Boyden of Canterbury.
Nathan dedicated his life to serving his country as a U.S. Army Ranger with the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. Throughout his military career, he completed five combat deployments to Afghanistan, where his courage and dedication were unwavering. His commitment to duty and selfless service earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow soldiers and leaders alike.
Educated locally, Nathan graduated from Griswold High School in 2008, where he first displayed his determination and leadership skills. On July 10, 2012, he married Ashley Latham in Savannah, Ga., who lovingly survives him. Nathan is also survived by his paternal grandparents, Lloyd and Glee Boyden of Preston, and leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his extended family, including numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends.
Preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Loyd and Beverly Taylor, Nathan’s passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished and honored.
A graveside service with full military honors was held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Preston City Cemetery, Preston, followed by a memorial service at Christian Fellowship Church, Scotland. These services provided an opportunity for family, friends, and comrades to gather, share memories, and find solace in their collective grief.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sua-Sponte Foundation, 214 Yam Gandy Rd., Savannah, GA 31411, supporting First Battalion Ranger families, a cause close to Nathan’s heart.
Guillot Funeral Home, Taftville, handled the arrangements, ensuring that Nathan’s final tribute was marked with the dignity and respect befitting a fallen hero.
Nathan’s spirit, bravery, and enduring love for his country will forever inspire and live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
