John’s journey led him to South Catholic High School, where he laid the foundation for a life of purpose. In 1976, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving his country with honor, including time stationed in Morocco. His military experience deepened his commitment to his fellow veterans and instilled in him a strong sense of patriotism.

A Passion for Work and Creativity

Following his service, John built a career as a land surveyor, allowing him to explore the landscapes of Connecticut and New England. He took great pride in mentoring young professionals in the field. Outside of work, his creativity flourished through doodles, comics, and watercolor paintings, capturing the beauty of everyday moments and the people who meant the most to him.

A Devoted Family Man

John’s love for his family and friends was boundless. Whether cheering on the Red Sox, embracing his children’s musical interests, or offering unwavering support, he approached life with enthusiasm and compassion. He was a champion for the underdog, always standing by those who needed encouragement.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Holly Zorra Gardiner; a loving father to daughters Sarah and Lauren Gardiner & loving stepfather to Andrew Zorra, Sirena Zorra and Tabitha Zorra.; his step-grandchildren, Lorenzo Chiaraluce, Juniper Bernstein, and Phineas Zorra; his sister, Anne Marie Gardiner Lancor; and his brother-in-law, Steven Lancor. His memory will live on through the love and laughter he shared with all who knew him.

In his honor, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, or individuals may choose to exercise their First Amendment rights for causes they believe in, reflecting John’s lifelong values.

On his birthday, we celebrate the life of John F. Gardiner—a man of integrity, creativity, and deep love for those around him. His spirit remains an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
