
Born on September 30, 1946, in Allston, Mass., John “Jack” George Casey Jr. made a profound impact on everyone who knew him. As we remember him on his birthday, we celebrate his extraordinary life, dedicated service, and unwavering commitment to others.
Jack graduated from Brighton High School in 1964, where his lively spirit and sense of humor were well-known. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, completing Disbursing Clerk Class A School in Newport, R.I. He was stationed at the Naval Submarine Base Disbursing Office in New London before volunteering for Vietnam. Jack’s time in Vietnam from July 1967 to July 1968 was marked by his service at the Naval Security Activity in Da Nang, where he earned several commendations, including the Navy Unit Commendation and Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars.
Returning to Groton after his discharge, Jack worked for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals for 33 years. Even after retiring in 2001, his dedication to service continued. He began volunteering with Meals on Wheels, delivering food and going above and beyond for seniors in need. Jack also volunteered as a Registrar for several memorials, including the World War II Memorial, U.S. Navy Memorial, and U.S. Army Memorial, registering thousands of service members.
His commitment extended to the Connecticut 2nd District Veteran’s Committee, the Patriot Guard Riders, and the American Warrior program, where he escorted World War II veterans to their memorials. Jack was recognized with numerous awards for his contributions, including the Outstanding Citizenship Award by The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Norwich Area Council Veteran of the Year.
Jack was also actively involved with veteran organizations such as the VVA, VFW, DAV, and Submarine Veterans Association. His volunteer work included supporting homeless and needy veterans, and he was inducted into the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame in 2013.
Jack’s humble nature, coupled with his compassion and sense of humor, made him a beloved figure among those he served. His dedication to helping others and his commitment to his country left a lasting legacy.

Jack is survived by his wife, Carol; his stepson, Roderic “Ricky” Call; his brother, Donnie; his sister, Ann; his niece, Karin Boucher; his great-nephew, Taylour Boucher; and additional nieces and nephews.
