Harry R. Hollywood, fondly known as “Buddy,” peacefully passed away at his home in Fairfield on Thursday, October 2, 2003, surrounded by his loving family. A man of deep dedication and strong values, Buddy lived a life of service, craftsmanship, and community, leaving a lasting legacy for those who knew him.

Born in Bridgeport to the late Henry and Geraldine Hollywood, Buddy’s early years were marked by a sense of duty and patriotism. After attending Warren Harding High School, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He bravely served in the Pacific theater, contributing to the war effort with honor and distinction.

After the war, Buddy returned to civilian life and began a long career as a tool and die maker. He worked at prestigious companies such as General Electric and Clark Metal Products, demonstrating the same precision and dedication he had shown during his time in the Navy. For much of his career, he was employed at Bryant Electric Co., where his craftsmanship and attention to detail earned him the respect of his peers.

Buddy was also an active and involved member of his community. A member of Elks Lodge 2220, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE), and the National Association of Naval Veterans Port Five, he found fellowship and camaraderie in these organizations. His heritage and love for culture also led him to become a member of the Gaelic American Club. In his free time, Buddy enjoyed playing rounds of golf at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course, where he found joy and relaxation among friends.

Buddy was a devoted family man, and his love for his family was evident in everything he did. He is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn Prochaska Donovan Hollywood of Fairfield, who shared his life with love and support. He was a proud father to two children: Deborah Hollywood Mudry of Newington and James Hollywood, who resides in Grand Prairie, Texas, with his wife, Donna. Buddy’s life was further enriched by his four grandchildren—Lauren and Matthew Mudry, and Judith and Margaret Mary Hollywood—who brought him immense joy, as well as his three great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Geraldine Capodagli, and her husband, Bernard, of Bridgeport, and many nieces and nephews.

Though his family mourns his loss, they also celebrate the life he lived—a life filled with love, service, and community. Buddy was predeceased by his brother, William R. Hollywood, and leaves behind the memory of their shared brotherhood.

Funeral services for Harry R. Hollywood were held on Monday, October 6, 2003. A service was held at Spear Funeral Home in Fairfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Assumption Church. His final resting place is St. Michael Cemetery in Stratford, where he was honored with full military honors in recognition of his service to his country.

Buddy’s family and friends gathered to pay their respects on Sunday, October 5, at Spear Funeral Home, where they shared memories of the man they loved and admired. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorial contributions be made to VNS Services Hospice at Home in Bridgeport, which had provided compassionate care to Buddy in his final days.

Harry R. “Buddy” Hollywood’s legacy of service, love for his family, and contributions to his community will not be forgotten. His life exemplified dedication, honor, and kindness—traits that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
