Today, we honor and celebrate the birthday of Edward G. Berberich, a beloved member of the Milford community and a proud Navy veteran. Born into a loving family, Ed was a man of great character, known for his dedication to his country, his career, and most of all, his family.
Ed was born and raised in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx, where his journey began. After graduating from Cardinal Hayes High School in 1945, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, answering the call to serve his country during a time of great need. His service in the Navy was a source of immense pride for him, and his commitment to his fellow veterans was lifelong.
Following his time in the Navy, Ed embarked on a 42-year career with the New York Telephone Company, where his hard work and dedication made him a well-respected figure. Even after his retirement, Ed continued to share his expertise, working as an engineering consultant in the telecommunications industry for another decade.
Milford became Ed’s home, and he spent over 40 years as a cherished resident of the Point Beach community, where he formed lasting friendships with neighbors. His sense of community extended to his involvement with American Legion Post 196, which he considered his second family. He was an active participant in all Legion activities, sharing stories and creating memories with fellow veterans.
Family was always at the heart of Ed’s life. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Christine Partelow and his grandson Eric Partelow, as well as his son Edward (Patricia) Berberich. His grandchildren Edward, Magnus, Stephanie, Jacob Berberich, and Danielle (Gary) Guilmette, along with his great-grandchildren Juliet and Jack Guilmette, all carry forward his legacy of love, humor, and devotion. Ed’s canine companion, Mindy, also brought him joy, and she is now lovingly cared for by his grandson, Ed.
As we reflect on the incredible life of Edward G. Berberich, we remember his passion for storytelling, his unwavering service to his country, and his deep love for his family and friends. His presence touched many lives, and today we celebrate the man who gave so much to those around him.
In Ed’s memory, donations can be made to American Legion Post 196, a cause that was dear to his heart. His legacy of service, kindness, and love will forever live on. Happy Birthday, Ed—your life continues to inspire all who knew you.
