In Wallingford, Connecticut, the name General Joseph T. Wojtasik is synonymous with honor, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to service. Born on November 30, 1946, Joseph was a beacon of strength and resilience, leaving behind a legacy that inspires many. On this special day, we celebrate what would have been his 77th birthday, reflecting on a life richly lived and deeply cherished.

Joseph’s journey began in Middletown, where he grew up under the guidance of his parents, Col. Theodore and Mary Wojtasik. He graduated from Lyman Hall High School in 1964 and went on to pursue higher education at Saint Leo University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in history on a full basketball scholarship. His athletic prowess was evident, but it was his determination and leadership that shone brightly as he graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1970, paving the way for a remarkable 36-year military career.

His military service was distinguished and impactful, beginning as a private in the Connecticut Army National Guard and advancing through the ranks to become a Brigadier General. Joseph’s dedication to his country was evident in every position he held, from Rifle Company Commander to Director of Logistics for the Connecticut Army National Guard. He was honored with numerous awards, including the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal, reflecting his extraordinary contributions to military service.

Joseph was also a devoted family man, married to Ruth Kurtz Wojtasik for 45 years. Together, they raised a loving family that included their daughter Christy Mitchell, son Joseph Wojtasik Jr., son Lance Wojtasik, and many grandchildren who adored him. His family often enjoyed trips to Boothbay Harbor, Maine, where Joseph delighted in kayaking, feasting on lobster, and cheering for his beloved New England Patriots and Boston Celtics.

As we commemorate this day, we remember the essence of Joseph Wojtasik—a caring father, supportive husband, and esteemed leader whose influence extended beyond his military achievements. He embodied the values of courage, integrity, and community service, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

On this birthday, we honor Joseph’s memory and the countless lives he touched through his service and love. Let us celebrate the man who inspired others to live with purpose, cherish family, and serve with a full heart. General Joseph T. Wojtasik’s spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of his loved ones and the community he cherished.
