Edgar’s life was defined by service, dedication, and love. A proud United States Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, he exemplified bravery and resilience. After his military service, Edgar made Bridgeport his home for nearly three decades. He built a life rooted in hard work, spending eight years with Saint Michael’s Cemetery and 11 years as a night supervisor at Home Depot. His work ethic and kindness left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.

Beyond his professional life, Edgar found joy in the outdoors and simple pleasures. An avid fisherman, he loved blue fishing at Saint Mary’s by the Sea and catfishing on Lake Lillinonah. He also shared many cherished memories at the bowling lanes of Stratford Town Fair Lanes and Fairfield Nutmeg Bowl, where his competitive spirit and laughter brought people together.

At the heart of Edgar’s life was his family. He shared a loving bond with his late wife, Leilani R. (Kaleikini), and together they raised seven children: Edgar R. Hensley III, Kimo A. Hensley, Joseph K. Hensley, Tammy Lynn I. Gallagher, Dorine E. Manlapit, Kiera Hensley, and Krista Mack. Edgar also took immense pride in his 12 grandchildren, who carry forward his legacy of love, strength, and resilience.

Edgar’s life was further enriched by the relationships he maintained with his sister, Cheryl Hessels of Shelton, and his extended family across Hawaii, Illinois, and Tennessee. The laughter, stories, and bonds shared among his nieces, nephews, and countless friends continue to be a testament to his impact.

On this special day, we honor the many facets of Edgar’s life—the Marine who stood with courage, the father and husband who loved unconditionally, and the friend who made life brighter for all who knew him. As we remember him on his birthday, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that continues to inspire.
