Army PFC Jeffrey Francis Braun

Army Private First Class Jeffrey Francis Braun of Stafford Springs, Connecticut, was a young Soldier whose life reflected courage, compassion, and service. Born on July 24, 1984, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, he was adopted as an infant by William and Meredith Braun and grew up in Stafford Springs. Known for his warmth, energy, and generosity, Jeff left a lasting impression on his family, friends, and community.

At Stafford High School, he excelled academically while participating in sports including soccer, track, and wrestling. He was active in music, community service, and his parish, demonstrating early a sense of responsibility and a desire to help others. After graduating in 2002, Jeff joined the United States Army, embracing the challenge of becoming a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division, assigned to Battery B, 2nd Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Jeff deployed to Iraq in 2003 as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served with dedication and professionalism, carrying out his duties alongside fellow Soldiers in challenging conditions. On December 12, 2003, at just 19 years old, PFC Braun passed away in Baghdad from a non-hostile injury, marking a tragic end to a life of promise, courage, and selfless service.

Jeffrey’s service was recognized with the Army Commendation Medal, highlighting his contributions and dedication. He dreamed of becoming a teacher and giving back to children, particularly in Honduras, reflecting a compassionate and forward-thinking spirit that defined his life. Friends, family, and comrades remember him for his humor, generosity, and the encouragement he offered others, qualities that left a permanent mark on those who knew him.

Jeffrey Francis Braun’s memory continues to inspire his community and the Soldiers who served alongside him. His life serves as a testament to the courage, sacrifice, and hope embodied by Connecticut’s young men and women who answer the call to serve.
