Remembering Staff Sgt. Alexandria M. Morrow: A Tribute to a Dedicated Airman
On March 22, 2017, the Air Force community mourned the loss of Staff Sgt. Alexandria Mae Morrow, a devoted servicewoman who tragically lost her life while serving during Operation Inherent Resolve. Morrow, aged 25 and hailing from Dansville, New York, met her untimely demise in Jordan while diligently performing maintenance duties in support of combat operations.
Assigned to the 366th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, Morrow exemplified professionalism and dedication throughout her seven years of service. Despite her assignment to Mountain Home, Morrow was actively engaged with the 322nd Air Expeditionary Wing overseas, where she contributed significantly as a weapons loader.
Morrow’s commitment to duty and her exceptional skills were evident to all who knew her. Col. Jefferson O’Donnell, commander of the 366th Fighter Wing, praised her leadership, passion, and outstanding contributions during her deployment. Her impact as a weapons loader, even within just five months overseas, earned her recognition and set records for weapons employment in combat.
The circumstances surrounding Morrow’s passing, characterized as a non-combat related incident, are under investigation by the Air Force. Reports from WHEC in New York suggest that Morrow was loading bombs onto a plane when a malfunction occurred, leading to a tragic accident.
During a memorial held in her honor, Morrow’s fellow airmen gathered to pay tribute to her remarkable character and unwavering dedication. Known affectionately as “Mother Alex” for her caring nature, Morrow touched the lives of many with her kindness and professionalism.
Lt. Col. Paul Tower, commander of the 332nd Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron, described Morrow as a loving wife, a devoted mother to her two daughters, and a trusted friend and warrior. Her professionalism and proficiency were evident in every aspect of her service, earning her the respect and admiration of her colleagues.
Morrow’s impact extended beyond her military service, as evidenced by the outpouring of support for her family on a GoFundMe page created in her memory. Within days, the fundraising efforts surpassed expectations, reflecting the deep love and appreciation felt for Morrow and her family.
As a final tribute, the Air Force Forum Facebook page shared a poignant image of a bomb with a heartfelt message dedicated to Morrow’s memory—a testament to her courage and dedication in the face of adversity.
Though Staff Sgt. Alexandria M. Morrow may no longer walk among us, her legacy as a compassionate leader, devoted mother, and dedicated airman will endure, inspiring all who had the privilege of knowing her.
