Roosevelt Duncan Jr., affectionately known as “Noni,” entered his eternal home on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at the age of 73. Born on October 13, 1948, in Stratford, Connecticut, to the late Roosevelt Duncan Sr. and Willie Mae Kittles Duncan, Roosevelt lived a life of service, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and friends.
Roosevelt received his education in the Stratford school system, where his thirst for knowledge and interest in reading began. He was a lifelong learner with a passion for Martial Arts and was widely regarded for his wisdom and thoughtful demeanor.
He answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Army and serving in Vietnam. After years of honorable military service, Roosevelt was discharged and continued to live out his values of hard work and dedication. He later became a longshoreman at Afco Lycoming, where he worked with integrity and pride.
In addition to his professional endeavors, Roosevelt built a friendship with Bill W. through Alcoholics Anonymous, which lasted for 35 years. This connection was a testament to his dedication to personal growth and helping others.
Family was central to Roosevelt’s life. He was a devoted father to his three children: Ahmed K., Akim R., and Kahaliah R., and a proud grandfather to his grandsons Kaishon A., Ahmed K., and Ahmani S. His love for his family was unwavering, and he was always willing to help them, or anyone in need, with a kind heart. His lifelong friendship with Nyles Glover, spanning 63 years, was also a testament to his ability to form lasting bonds.
Roosevelt was predeceased by his brother Emanuel, sister Reatha Mae, and son Hasson A., but his legacy continues to live on in the lives of those who loved him. His kindness, quiet strength, and dedication to his family and friends left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.
Roosevelt’s life was honored with a memorial service on December 29, 2021. The service was live-streamed to allow all those who knew and loved him to join in celebrating his life, even from afar.
