Today, we honor the life and legacy of Corporal Kevin John “Jack” Dempsey, who was born on December 9, 1980, in Sharon, Connecticut. As we reflect on his birthday, we remember a courageous Marine whose impact continues to resonate in the hearts of family and friends.

Growing up in New Canaan, Kevin was a gifted athlete and a loving brother to his sister, Jennifer. His mother, Barbara Lane Dempsey, often recalls the bond they shared, especially after the loss of their father when Kevin was young. He was not only a protector to those around him but also a source of joy, known for his great smile and infectious laughter.

From an early age, Kevin demonstrated a fearless spirit. In the ninth grade, he made a decision that would shape his future: alongside three friends, he committed to joining the Marine Corps. Following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Kevin felt a deep calling to serve his country. He enlisted in the Marines in March 2002 and was assigned to the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Kevin’s dedication to service led him to Iraq, where he displayed unwavering courage and commitment. Tragically, on November 13, 2004, while leading a reconnaissance foot patrol in Al Anbar Province, he made the ultimate sacrifice to protect his comrades. His actions saved at least seven Marines from an improvised explosive device, showcasing the selflessness that defined his character.

As we celebrate his birthday, we remember Kevin not only as a Marine but as a beloved son and brother. His mother and sister, Barbara and Jennifer, cherish the memories of his adventurous spirit and the love he shared with family and friends. Kevin was predeceased by his father late D. Kevin Dempsey. The community of Monroe continues to honor his legacy, recognizing his contributions and the impact he made during his short life.

Today, we take a moment to reflect on the man Kevin Dempsey was, his dreams, and the difference he sought to make in the world. He is remembered not only for his bravery but also for his compassion, strength, and the indelible mark he left on the lives of those who knew him. Happy Birthday, Corporal Dempsey. Your memory lives on in our hearts.
