Sergeant Jason Lantieri, born on July 24, 1982, in Waterbury, Connecticut, exemplified courage and commitment throughout his life and military career. After graduating from Haddam-Killingworth High School, where he excelled in academics and sports, Jason pursued higher education at Western New England College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. His adventurous spirit led him to enlist in the United States Army in November 2004, undertaking Basic Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, followed by Advanced Individual Training as an 88M Vehicle Operator at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Airborne School at Fort Benning.

Assigned to Easy Company, 725th Support Battalion (Airborne), at Fort Richardson, Alaska, Jason served with distinction as a Senior Vehicle Operator. He deployed to Iraq in October 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08, where he played a crucial role in logistical operations and as a member of the Personal Security Detachment for the Explosive Ordnance Team. His dedication and bravery earned him accolades including the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Action Badge, and numerous others, reflecting his exemplary service and commitment to duty.

Jason was known for his infectious smile, adventurous spirit, and unwavering honesty. He had a passion for sports, particularly waffle ball, and enjoyed tinkering with equipment to improve performance. Beyond his military achievements, Jason was cherished as a loving son to Kathleen and Jon Miller, a supportive brother to David Miller, Sarah Greenaway, and Rachel and Amy Durette, and a proud uncle to seven nieces and nephews. His vibrant personality and optimistic outlook left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Tragically, Sergeant Jason Lantieri passed away on October 9, 2007, in a vehicle accident south of Baghdad, Iraq, while serving his country. His memory lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and fellow soldiers. A memorial service held at Haddam-Killingworth High School honored his life and service, celebrating his legacy of courage, integrity, and selfless dedication. Jason’s contributions to his country and community will forever be remembered and cherished.
