Michael P. Donnelly, a beloved long-time resident of Stamford, CT, passed away suddenly on October 1st, 2020, at the age of 50. Michael, affectionately known as Mike, was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend whose legacy of love, dedication, and service to his country and community will never be forgotten.

Mike’s life began with a strong foundation in family and community. He graduated from Henry Abbott Technical High School, where he honed the skills that would lead to a successful career in carpentry. Known for his strong work ethic and craftsmanship, Mike eventually became a self-employed business owner, embodying the entrepreneurial spirit and taking pride in every project he undertook.

A proud and honorable combat veteran, Mike served his country with distinction as a sergeant in the Army’s 248 Engineer Company. His time in Iraq left a lasting impact on him and those he served with. Throughout his military career, Mike earned numerous commendations, including the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” Device, and the Army Service Medal. His service and dedication to protecting our nation’s freedoms will always be remembered.

Mike was predeceased by his father, Michael W. Donnelly, and leaves behind a grieving but deeply loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kim, and their two sons, Mike and Scott, both of whom carry forward their father’s legacy of strength and kindness. His mother, Joan Donnelly, and brother, Dennis Donnelly, along with Dennis’ wife Meegan and their children, Sean and Casey, also mourn his passing while cherishing the memories they shared. Mike’s presence will continue to be felt through the love and lessons he imparted to his family.

Mike’s warmth and generosity extended beyond his family. He was an active member of the community, always willing to lend a helping hand and be there for those in need. His impact was profound, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A wake to honor Mike’s life was held on Tuesday, October 6th, 2020, from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home in Stamford. Family and friends gathered to celebrate his life and offer their condolences. The Mass of Christian Burial took place on Wednesday, October 7th, at 10:30 am at St. Cecilia’s Church, where prayers were said, and memories shared as his loved ones came together in mourning and remembrance.

In lieu of flowers, donations were made to House of Heroes Connecticut, an organization that supports veterans and their families, in Mike’s honor. His family is grateful for the support extended to them during this difficult time and asks that anyone wishing to offer their condolences do so online at www.gallagherfuneralhome.com.

Though Mike may no longer walk among us, his legacy of service, strength, and love lives on through his family and those whose lives he touched. He will forever remain in our hearts.
