Hall Of Flags at Connecticut State Capitol

An Invitation Of

The resurrected Hall of Flags ceremony, hosted this year by the Department of Connecticut American Legion, is at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at the Connecticut State Capitol (210 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT). This will be the first ceremony since the pandemic. Be early as we previously had to go through capitol security (metal detectors).

Senior state officers will be wearing blues and grays with uniform cover. Be advised, the air conditioning at the capitol has been inadequate in the past.

Tribute Honoring WWII, US Army veteran, 1LT Rufus Stillman

On July 6th @ 10:00 a.m., American Legion Post 44 of Bantam will honor World War Two, United States Army veteran, First Lieutenant Rufus Stillman.

Stillman suffered a severe wound in 1944 while serving with Patton’s 3rd Army in France; he was honorably discharged upon his return to the United States in 1945.. Stillman was an officer at the Torin Company in Torrington, lived in Litchfield where he was active in community service and a proponent of bringing modern architecture to Litchfield County.

Please attend and learn about this veteran who served his country and community. The tribute will take place at the All Wars Memorial, in front of Bantam Cemetery and start with the return of the previous honoree Nathan Zimmerman’s flag to his family. Light refreshments and social time will follow in the Bantam Borough Hall. In case of inclement weather, the tribute will take place in the Bantam Borough Hall.
