On February 3, 1943 the Army transport ship USAT Dorchester was torpedoed by a submarine and sank with 902 troops on board, including the Four Immortal Chaplains. While aiding and comforting the Army troops as the ship sank, the chaplains surrendered their life jackets that others may live on. As the Dorchester sank, the four chaplains linked their arms and prayed. 672 died, leaving 230 survivors.

2025 Chili Cookoff Contestant Rules
Contestants must register in advance with Maddog.
Contestant numbers will be assigned on a random basis.
Contestant tables will be assigned by number, with two contestants per 8′ table.
Contestants may enter the venue for set-up at 12:00 PM.
Each contestant must provide their own chili, serving utensils, table decorations, supplies, condiments, etc.
Each contestant must provide a crockpot, soup urn, or another container to keep their chili at the proper temperature.
Suggested amount of chili: 5 to 6 quarts per contestant.
Ingredients that may cause food allergies (such as dairy, eggs, nuts, chocolate, or shellfish) must be clearly displayed in writing.
Tasting bowls and soup spoons will be supplied by the club.
Free admission for each contestant – the $5 admission fee is waived for one entry per contestant.
