Today, we joyfully celebrate the birthday of Anthony “Din” L. Iannicelli, a remarkable man whose life was filled with love, service, and dedication. Born on November 8, 1923, in Waterbury, Connecticut, Anthony was the beloved son of Angelo and Giocondina Iannicelli. His educational journey took him through local schools, culminating in his graduation from Oliver Wolcott Technical School in Torrington.
Anthony’s spirit of service began when he joined the United States Army in 1943, where he served with the 1st Cavalry Division in the Pacific Theater during World War II. His bravery and commitment earned him numerous accolades, including the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. Anthony was proud to be a veteran and was recognized at a special dinner by the Waterbury Veterans Memorial Committee in 2015.
In December 1945, after returning home from the war, Anthony began working as a Letter Carrier for the United States Post Office while also honing his skills as a Toolmaker at Risdon. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Juliette Maffei, on March 2, 1946. Together, they built a loving home, raising three daughters—Christine, Deborah, and Maria—who continue to carry his legacy forward.
Anthony’s life was marked not only by his military service but also by his deep commitment to family and community. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #7330 and a charter member of the Watertown/Oakville UNICO, reflecting his dedication to both veterans and his local community.
In addition to his cherished wife of 74 years, Anthony is lovingly remembered by his daughters and his grandchildren—Antonia, Giavanna, and Nicholas—along with his great-grandchildren, Jada and Domenic. His family remembers him for his strength, kindness, and unwavering support, qualities that will always be cherished.
As we celebrate Anthony’s remarkable life today, we honor the legacy he left behind—one of courage, love, and community spirit. His memory will continue to inspire all who knew him. Happy birthday, Anthony! Your life touched many, and your spirit lives on in the hearts of your family and friends.
