Today, we honor and celebrate the birthday of Paul Garceau, a man whose life was filled with love, service, and dedication to his family, country, and community. Born on December 24, 1931, in Watertown, Paul lived 92 remarkable years, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire all who knew him.

Paul proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, embodying the patriotism and commitment to service that shaped his life. Upon returning to Watertown, he dedicated 43 years of hard work to Heminway & Bartlett, while also playing an active role in the community he loved so dearly.

Paul’s contributions to the town of Watertown extended far beyond his professional life. He was one of the founding members of VFW Post 5157, where he served as senior vice commander, and he faithfully marched in the town’s Memorial Day Parades, often serving as grand marshal. Though he was unable to attend his final parade in person, Paul proudly dressed in his uniform for what would be his last Memorial Day celebration with his family.

His leadership extended to various organizations, including his role as president of the Veterans Council of Watertown/Oakville and as an active member of American Legion Post 195. Paul also took on leadership roles with the Heminway & Bartlett Co. Credit Union and the Greater Watertown Federal Credit Union, along with being past president of the Industrial Management Council of Greater Waterbury. He cherished his work as co-chairman of St. John’s Newest Alumni Branch Graduating Class, adding to his long list of contributions to the community.

Family was Paul’s greatest joy. He and his beloved wife, Stella, shared 68 years of love, devotion, and faith. Their bond, built on mutual respect and care, served as the foundation for the beautiful family they created. Paul’s role as a father, PopPop/Pépère, and great-grandfather was at the heart of who he was. His wisdom, kindness, and unwavering support left a lasting impact on his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Paul also found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. Whether it was working in his garden, taking walks with Stella, or celebrating holidays with loved ones, Paul enjoyed every moment. His love for history and patriotism kept him deeply engaged with current events, while his passion for Patriots football was shared with his family. His later years brought new joy as he began learning to play the guitar, guided by his grandson Jason, fulfilling a lifelong dream.

As we celebrate Paul’s birthday today, we reflect on the countless cherished memories and the incredible legacy he left behind. His love for family, dedication to service, and deep connection to his community are gifts that continue to live on through all who knew him.

Paul’s memory remains forever in the hearts of his beloved wife, Stella; his son and daughters-in-law, Steven (Maureen) and Janine Garceau; his grandsons, Geoffrey (Sarah), Jared (Molly), Ethan (Samantha), Michael, Jason (Kenna), Owen, and Joshua Garceau; and his great-grandchildren, McKenna, Charleigh, Parker, Ella, Bradley, and Gus Garceau. He is also remembered by his sister, Margaret Krebs; his sister-in-law, Rita Garceau; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Paul was predeceased by his eldest son, Robert Garceau, and his brothers, Laurien and Gerald “Jit” Garceau.

On this special day, we honor Paul’s memory and celebrate the life he lived so fully. His legacy of love, service, and family will continue to inspire us all.
