**January 7, 1975 – July 20, 2009**

Dennis Joseph Pratt, a dedicated soldier and loving family man, was tragically taken from us on July 20, 2009, while serving his country in Afghanistan. Born on January 7, 1975, in Waterbury, Connecticut, Dennis was the cherished son of Jim and Lori Pratt.

Dennis spent his formative years in Southington, Connecticut, where he graduated from high school before embarking on a journey that would lead him across the country and ultimately into the ranks of the United States Army. His commitment to service was evident from an early age, and it was no surprise when he chose to join the military in January 2008, driven by a deep-seated desire to protect and serve.

Assigned to the 4th Battalion, 25th Field Artillery (Strike), 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), stationed at Fort Drum, New York, Dennis quickly proved himself as a capable and dedicated soldier. His expertise as a field artillery automated tactical data systems specialist was a testament to his skill and dedication. Dennis’s proficiency was unmatched, earning him the respect and admiration of his comrades who affectionately called him “Pop,” “Pops,” or “Old Man” due to his age and wisdom beyond his years.

Throughout his service, Dennis exemplified bravery and selflessness. On January 6, 2009, he deployed to Afghanistan, fully committed to his mission despite the inherent risks. Tragically, on July 20, 2009, Dennis and his fellow soldiers faced a deadly attack when an improvised explosive device detonated near their convoy in Maydan Shahr, Wardak Province. In the ensuing chaos, they were ambushed by enemy forces using small arms and rocket-propelled grenades. Dennis’s Humvee, caught in the crossfire, bore the brunt of the assault, ultimately being torn apart by a devastating blast.

Dennis’s legacy extends beyond his military service. He was a devoted husband to Michelle Bryant, whom he married on May 9, 2008, in Lawton, Oklahoma, and a loving father to their three children, Collin Kessler, Gabrielle Pratt, and Caden Bryant, all of whom were the light of his life. His family meant everything to him, and his calls home always ended with reassurance: “I’ve got your back. You can sleep in peace.”

In Duncan, Oklahoma, Dennis was known not only as a hometown hero but also as a man of integrity and kindness. Residents lined the streets with American flags to honor his final journey home to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he was laid to rest with full military honors at Fort Sill National Cemetery. His funeral service, held at a Fort Sill chapel, was a poignant tribute to a man who had found his calling in the Army and embraced it with unwavering dedication.

Dennis leaves behind a legacy of courage, sacrifice, and love. He will be deeply missed by his wife Michelle, children, parents Jim and Sinnamon Pratt, brothers Jim Pratt and Kyle Hansen, step-sister Leanna Pratt, and a host of relatives, friends, and comrades who will forever remember his bravery and enduring spirit.

We salute you, SPC Dennis Joseph Pratt, for your service and sacrifice. May you rest in eternal peace, knowing that your country and loved ones will forever hold you in their hearts.
