On November 17, we celebrate the remarkable life of Walter Henry Grisevich, who was born in 1925 in Hartford, Connecticut. Walter, a proud veteran and cherished family man, filled the hearts of those around him with love and joy until his passing on February 19, 2020, at the age of 94.

Walter’s journey began on a farm, where as a spirited 17-year-old, he enlisted in the Marines during World War II. Serving in the 1st Provisional Marine Brigade, he fought bravely for the liberation of Guam. His dedication to honoring his fallen comrades was evident throughout his life as he worked tirelessly to ensure that those overlooked on the Official Guam Casualty List were remembered and celebrated. Walter felt a deep connection to Guam, making several trips back in his later years alongside fellow soldiers.

After the war, Walter married the love of his life, Madeline Carpenter, whom he met while working as a Bond Bread salesman. Their loving union lasted for 58 years, and together they devoted themselves to their extended family. Walter’s thoughtful and generous spirit left a lasting impact on his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and their families.

Known for his joyful and outgoing nature, Walter embraced every aspect of life. Whether he was thriving in sales, chauffeuring at Dexter Corporation in Windsor, or enjoying his passion for stamp collecting, he approached everything with enthusiasm.

Today, we honor Walter’s memory and the profound legacy he left behind. Though he was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leon and Paul Grisevich, and sister Mary Skripol, he is survived by his stepson Stewart Brown and his wife Regene, his brother George Grisevich, and his sister Lillian Parks.

As we reflect on Walter Henry Grisevich’s birthday, we celebrate a life filled with service, love, and laughter. His spirit continues to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him, and he will forever remain in our hearts.
