In this week’s Thursday Preview, we spotlight the latest additions to our Veterans Calendar for the upcoming Saturday, 13 June 2026 Edition. These events and programs are thoughtfully curated to support and engage Connecticut’s veteran community.
This publication serves as a dedicated, forward-looking preview designed to highlight the newest additions to the running Connecticut Veterans Calendar. While previous editions maintain the full, ongoing catalog of statewide veteran resources and long-standing events, this weekly preview ensures that the community stays directly informed about newly scheduled programs, immediate volunteer initiatives, and upcoming fraternal activities as they are established. For a complete list of events and more details, please refer to the full Connecticut Veterans Calendar in our upcoming publication or through our previous publication which contains all other ongoing listings.

Arlington National Cemetery An Historical Overview

Arlington National Cemetery An Historical Overview
Tuesday, June 30 @ 6:30 PM
Arlington National Cemetery, one of America’s most important historical landmarks, is best known for its more than 300,000 graves and famous monuments. Before this beautiful spot on the Potomac became a cemetery, it had a story entwined with the early history of some of Virginia’s first families including the Custises, Lees, and Washingtons. Hear author Cynthia Parzych present the backstory of this iconic spot and highlights some of the stories of the people who lived and were buried on the land that became Arlington National Cemetery.
Born and educated in Connecticut, Cynthia Parzych is a writer, book publisher, and editor. She lives in Glastonbury, Connecticut, in a house built in 1693, where she runs her publishing company. She has expertise in the history of America, the Civil War, European History, and World War I and II and produces books on many topics including military history. She has led historic tours of battle sites in the United States and Europe.

I am not a veteran. I am a member of the Civil Air Patrol, the United States Air Force Auxiliary. But in 1991, personal loss brought me to a place I never left.
Over two decades later, that loss led me to the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, Connecticut, where I took on the coordination of Wreaths Across America — which grew into the largest and fastest growing veterans program in the state. I didn’t do it for recognition. I did it for them.
In 2016 I founded the Connecticut Veterans Bulletin. Not because I served, but because I believe those who did deserve to be honored, connected, and kept alive.
Twenty-two veterans die by suicide every day. I knew about that number before it became a hashtag. I knew it personally, long before anyone was talking about it.
This publication exists because that number is unacceptable. Because every veteran in Connecticut deserves to know someone gives a damn.
That someone is me.
