Honoring Local Heroes: House of Heroes CT Delivers No-Cost Home Repairs in Hartford and New Britain
House of Heroes Connecticut (HOHCT), a trusted Hamden-based non-profit veterans service organization, continues its vital mission this weekend. Specifically, volunteer teams will provide critical, no-cost home improvements to two deserving U.S. Army veterans on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Furthermore, these projects mark a significant milestone for the organization because they represent the 317th and 318th homes serviced since the chapter was founded in 2012.
Empowering Those Who Served
Ever since its inception, House of Heroes Connecticut has focused on recognizing, honoring, and serving military veterans, public safety officers, and their surviving spouses. Many of these individuals face physical, financial, or personal challenges daily. Therefore, the organization coordinates one-day volunteer efforts to tackle essential safety and accessibility modifications. Consequently, veterans can live safely, comfortably, and with dignity in the homes they love. This weekend’s initiative succeeds largely because of strong community partnerships. Applied Aerospace & Defense of Newington sponsors the New Britain project, while Cirtec Medical of Enfield supports the home repair in Hartford.

WHAT:
House of Heroes Connecticut (HOHCT), the Hamden-based non-profit Veterans Service Organization that provides one-day, no-cost home repairs for Vets in need, will assist a pair of U.S. Army Veterans in Hartford and New Britain this Saturday.
The projects are the non-profit’s 317th and 318th since its 2012 founding. Project Partners for Saturday’s jobs include Applied Aerospace & Defense of Newington (New Britain project) and Cirtec Medical of Enfield (Hartford project).
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, HOHCT recognizes, honors, and serves military and public safety veterans and/or their surviving spouses in need by providing one-day, no-cost home repairs focusing on safety and accessibility. For more information, visit www.hohct.org.

I am not a veteran. I am a member of the Civil Air Patrol, the United States Air Force Auxiliary. But in 1991, personal loss brought me to a place I never left.
Over two decades later, that loss led me to the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, Connecticut, where I took on the coordination of Wreaths Across America — which grew into the largest and fastest growing veterans program in the state. I didn’t do it for recognition. I did it for them.
In 2016 I founded the Connecticut Veterans Bulletin. Not because I served, but because I believe those who did deserve to be honored, connected, and kept alive.
Twenty-two veterans die by suicide every day. I knew about that number before it became a hashtag. I knew it personally, long before anyone was talking about it.
This publication exists because that number is unacceptable. Because every veteran in Connecticut deserves to know someone gives a damn.
That someone is me.
