As we gather to honor the remarkable life of Staff Sergeant Ari Richard Cullers, we celebrate his birthday on March 30, 2024. Ari, who was born on March 30, 1983, in New London, Connecticut, left an indelible mark on all who knew him through his unwavering commitment to service and his deep love for his family.

Ari’s journey began in Stratford, where he attended Clark Lane Middle School and graduated from Waterford High School in 2001. From a young age, he exhibited a passion for serving his country, enlisting in the United States Army shortly after high school. He was proud to serve in the 3rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, stationed at Fort Drum, New York.

During his military career, Ari earned numerous awards and accolades, including the posthumous Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart, recognizing his bravery and dedication. His service included a tour in Afghanistan, where he tragically lost his life on October 30, 2011, due to injuries from an enemy rocket-propelled grenade. His sacrifice is a testament to his courage and commitment to his fellow soldiers and the ideals of freedom and democracy.

Ari was not only a dedicated soldier but also a beloved son, brother, and friend. He is remembered fondly by his mother, Robin E. Cornele, and his stepfather, Tim Forsyth. His brother, Jacob Cullers, who served in the Air Force, and a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins cherish the memories they created together. Ari’s warm spirit, infectious smile, and kind heart touched everyone he met.

On this special day, as we reflect on Ari’s life, we remember his love for family, his dedication to service, and his kindness to all. He is greatly missed, but his legacy lives on in the hearts of those he inspired and loved. In his memory, we encourage all who knew him to share stories and fond memories, celebrating the beautiful impact he had on our lives.

In lieu of gifts, consider making a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project to honor Ari’s commitment to his fellow veterans and service members. As we remember Staff Sergeant Ari R. Cullers today, let us celebrate his life and the principles he stood for—courage, service, and love. Happy birthday, Ari. Your spirit continues to shine brightly in our hearts.
